Standard 1:    Demonstrates mastery of and pedagogical expertise in content

Attached above are three artifacts of students in action or planning, as well as my lesson plan for etching.

All three artifacts tie back to my content in metal-smithing. In the first photo there is a student using a saw to saw plexi-glass, this student and I worked together often in this process to get the saw in perfect tightness, because it kept breaking.

The second photo shows planning from a student. When she was coming up with her original metal three layer object she was really stuck so I introduced her to an artist named Thomas Man. Thomas Man is a metal-smith artist who makes work that is layered and really trinket looking, one of his ideas is this layered little robot that comes in a set that is earrings, that is where she got her idea. With her plan also I encouraged her to draw things to size and draw where all connections will be so when it comes to creating it will e easier.

The third photo was actually from the soapstone carving project. Many students had a hard time with this project. in this photo the student is using a rawhide mallet instead of a heaver hammer. From my experience with working with rawhide this type of hammer is really for finishing metal or moving it without causing a texture on it. I had told the student if she wants to break a piece of the stone off we need a different hammer because the weight will cause a greater force.  She did not want a different hammer because "the other hammers are too loud". She still was able to break some of the stone off with the rawhide mallet, it just took a little longer.

As for my developmental level in this standard I feel like I am proficient. I can connect areas of art/art history in many things that the students are working on. I am still growing however. I know the basics of clay but I need to work/ explore the things I don't know such as the throwing wheel, or the mixing of different glazes.I can answer most questions but when it comes to pottery my knowledge is limited.
