MY METALS CREATIONS

Wearable Home

Copper braceleted with Garden of the God and Pikes Peak drawn on it.

Tea free me

Tea free me was created in 2019. It is made from fine silver and patinaed copper and brass. Tea Free me comes from the idea of a classic tea for two. However this tea pot is non functional and takes on the form of a prison with a butterfly wing behind bar. The bars are covered in dead and dry butterfly wings. This was a metaphor for my life, a want for escape but trapped with in. I no longer wanted a tea for two, I wanted to be free.

SUSPENDED

This piece is symbolic to steps it took to make me want to be a teachers.
Through chasing and repousse I explored the creation of vegetation and leaves; these were symbolic to the person that gave me hope. The rotting cores of the apples were symbolic to what kind of 'apple' I was in school. Even the date that is scribbled on the board is a significant date to what pushed me in the right direction.
If nothing else this piece can be reflected  on as the challenged we all face during school and what we can uncover from pushing forward.
This piece is made by using copper and brass, liver of sulfur patina, and a chalkboard.  5 1/2"x 7"

TRASH TO FLASH

This was my take on turning peoples trash into treasures. When transforming the pieces I had the thought in my head would I wear this? No, well how can I change it? I spent a lot of time observing other peoples jewelry as I passed them on the street and looked for commonalities.  For me jewelry I wear everyday is rather simple and small, if I wear something big it is a statement piece and not an everyday look.
That is why the pieces I made are rather small and neutral in color. I explored a lot of folding and sanding to create these projects one of a kind, I didn't want to change the jewelry so it was something unrecognizable, I merely just wanted to give it a little face lift.
This necklace and earring set was originally a token that at one point might have been a brioche. I sawed, re-sanded and bent to bring new life into this piece.

NECKLACE 1

This necklace is made out of a found and recycled jewelry. The pendant was originally a brioche in which was re-imagined and shaped to become a necklace.

NECKLACE 2

This necklace started out life as a earring, it was cut, sanded and re-shaped to form a crescent moon.

HANGING BY A THREAD

This is a vessel made of copper with blue and green thread sown into it. Raising a vessel itself was a lone a lot of physical and metal work for me. One wrong move and it felt like the piece was destroyed, it riddled me with anxiety  and some times hope when I finally felt like it was going the right way. At first it was just going to be a raised vessel but over time it became so much more, I am comforted by sowing and embroidering because it brings me back to a time when my mom was showing me how to do those things, it is a soft part for me. So when combining embroidery and sowing into a metal piece it became this overcoming strength to me.
Sometimes things in life challenge us, but is what we make out of the challenges that really define us.
